Educational opportunities abound within the professional spa community. For example, service providers can often find local spa schools offering training everything from massage 101 to exotic Asian therapies. The quality of brick and mortar schools can range from the “Ivy covered campus” to Bob’s Body School where, yes, you can indeed learn facials and fender repair all under the same roof.
For the Day Spa owner though, finding affordable, convenient and, most of all, relevant business education is more of a challenge. Sure there are excellent learning opportunities at events like The Day Spa Expo but that is only once a year. If you are based in Las Vegas you could probably drop in on a spa related conference every other month but how many of us can afford the time or money to attend multiple conferences each year?
With that in mind, we (SpaClique.com and SpaiUniversity.com) have been given the opportunity to advise the DSA and IMSA on the development of an education portal dedicated to the unique needs of the Day and Medical Spa owner. This new site can be accessed at http://DSA.SpaiUniversity.com
The portal provides something of a home base for DSA + IMSA “Virtual” education initiatives. There you will already find two separate on-line education tracks focused on providing spa business centric education opportunities. The first is a virtual rendition of this year’s DSE Business Forum from Las Vegas. The Second track is via the Outside the Box Webinar Series.
Hannelore Leavy does an outstanding job of describing the content of these two tracks via a video blog found on the DSA + IMSA education portal home page. Be sure to compliment Hannelore on her most fashionable hairstyle. I suggested a different camera placement for her recording but I think she was looking to assure everyone she is back to full health after her recent chemo treatments. I’m actually having a little fun here with Hannelore – watch the presentation and you will see what I mean. Hopefully she’ll still print this!
Next week I will be going into more detail on some of the interesting technologies used for the portal as well as a surprise announcement for you owners and operators who still need to keep up with your CE hours for licensing reasons.
