CEs – Just for Day Spa Owners

There is a common challenge that seems to be unique to many Day Spa owners and independent practitioners. Many of you, like most all small business owners, wear multiple hats. 50 plus percent of you provide your customers with treatments while at the same time, continue to run the business. You probably also have very a limited amount of time you can spare to continuing education.

 So here is where the dilemma may come in. On one hand the “news you can use” is really about how to run your business. On the other, you may have state or local licensing obligations that need to be attended to.  As mentioned last week, there are many opportunities to pick up CEs related to your therapeutic work but not so much spa business education.

 Now there’s an answer from the DSA! Many of the Outside the Box SPA Webinars going forward will offer the opportunity to earn a CE after attending the webinar. This will be true for those of you who attend live or watch the recorded session.

 How this works: 

Patti Biro and Associates, an educational consultancy group recognized as an approved provider by the NCBTMB, (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work) will be setting the standards for DSA and IMSA SPA webinars and courses that will carry CE hours. They will review the content of planned events for adherence to these standards. At the same time, a knowledge transfer (that means “quiz” for you and me) and presentation assessment will be prepared and entered into SpaClique’s Spa iUniversity Learning Management System (LMS). 

 In a recent email, Patti wrote: “Many spa owners, operators and those who wish to be spa owners in the future need continuing professional education to meet state licensing requirements. With over 90,000 NCBTMB certificates and many states accepting NCBTMB approved contact hours this partnership will give DSA + IMSA members the opportunity to learn from the experts in the field-and apply this activity for to their license renewal.

 To earn CE’s

1. Go to DSA.SpaiUniversity.com
2. Find the on-line course version of the webinar you just attended.
3. Register to take the quiz. There is a $25 fee. Sorry no DSA or IMSA discount available for this part.
4. Following successful completion of the quiz you will have an immediate opportunity to print CE certificate.

 Patti Biro along with Spa iUniversity will maintain your NCBTMB transcript for your completed courses.

 The first session to be presented in this program will be Hannelore Leavy’s July 20^th  SPA webinar “How to grow market share in a recovering economy”.

 Going forward, this same process will be applied to the existing selections available in the Day Spa Expo Business Forum On-Line courses as well as select sessions archived from the Outside the Box SPA Webinar Series.
